The updated HauntedWisconsin.com site is...
Those who suffer from friggatriskaidekaphobia (fear of Friday the 13th) may want to stay home this Friday as a rare occurrence takes place. Don't forget, one of the few Halloween cartoons shown on network TV will be on tonight. "It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown", will be on ABC TONGIHT at 7pm CT followed by “You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown".
I love listening to my Halloween playlist while working on the site. My playlist tends to be a bit more "classic" with just about all of the songs being from the 1980's or earlier and include songs like "Monster Mash", "Don't Fear the Reaper", "Thriller" and "Headless Horseman." What songs are on your Halloween playlist? Do you like the classics or do you prefer something newer or heavier? Here's my Classic Halloween Playlist on Spotify.
One of my favorite Halloween cartoons, "It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown", will be airing on ABC Halloween night, Thursday, October 31 at 7pm CT followed by “You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown". Even though I own the DVD, I'll still be tuning in for some nostalgia. What's your favorite Halloween cartoon?

As a kid, I knew once the state fair was over, school wasn't far behind. This is still true today but instead of school my focus is on Halloween. While it may seem early, some stores have already stocked their shelves with Halloween decor and candy. And don't be too surprised if you see a Christmas tree or snowman as they've been spotted as well. Talk about early! In addtion, temporary Halloween stores will soon open their doors and on Thursday, August 22nd you'll be able to visit the Halloween Express stores in Green Bay and Rothschild. Be sure to...

Updated: 7/28/2013 Independence Day has come and gone which means it's time to start preapring for fall. Yes, I know summer only started a couple of weeks ago, but as most of us know, stores like to get ahead of the seasons. So, if you’re finally getting around to looking for patio furniture, you better move fast! Target has already started clearing out their summer merchandise in order to move back to school items in, which of course means Halloween goodies aren’t far behind! If you’re like me and love seeing fall and Halloween items popping up in stores early in the...
I bottled up the event list into a free mobile app for Android and posted it to the Google Play store. You can find the app by searching for "WI Haunts" or using this link to WI Haunts on the Google Play store. After the list is loaded in the App for the first time, you will have all the Wisconsin Halloween event information in your pocket with no Internet connection required. If you have GPS enabled on your device, the app will show the distance to the nearest events whenever you click the "refresh" button. Please send suggestions and...
This past weekend, the HW staff had the terrifying opportunity to visit Dr. Scary's in Fort Atkinson. Now, normally the HW staff doesn't post "reviews" of events that we attend. We take great pride in maintaining an unbiased and supportive professionalism towards all of Wisconsin's Haunts. However, I feel compelled to at least share an anecdote of our phenomenal experience.A couple of amazing Janesville Haunts had dished up some fantastic scares for us, and now it was time to meet the Doctor! The drive out to Jellystone campground was dark, desolate and wooded. The air smelled of burning leaves, earth,...
It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown will be on ABC on Wednesday, October 31st at 7pm (CST). Be sure to set your DVR's, because unfortunately many little ones will be out trick-or-treating during this time and will miss it.
(Updated: 9/24/12) October is almost here which means we'll soon start seeing pumpkins, monsters and other spooky things on TV. Here's a listing of some of the Halloween specials that will air this year. This list will be updated as we get more information, so keep checking back! (Listed in order of first air date) Travel Channel - Making Monsters - Sept. 30 (series) Making Monsters is a fascinating look at the world of animatronics and mask makers. Ed Edmunds and his small staff work tirelessly in Greeley, CO, to create some of the scariest animatronics and “frightronics” the haunt...
If you like the taste of pumpkin, you should stop into your nearest Einstein Bros Bagels and try out their selection of pumpkin goodies! Items include; Frozen Pumpkin Latte, Pumpkin Latte, Pumpkin Muffin, Pumpkin Cream Cheese Poppers, Pumpkin Walnut Crunch Bagel and Pumpkin Schmear. I had the Pumpkin Walnut Crunch Bagel and shmear today. The crunch topping tasted like it was burned, but other than that it was delicious!
Several 2012 Halloween magazines are now on store shelves! You know the season's getting closer when you see these. Hopefully Martha Stewart's Halloween magazine will be packed with all new articles unlike last year.
While out at Menards today, Andy and I spotted three and half isles of Halloween goodies! Apparently most of it's been out for about a week or so already, and while it may seem early to some, it's never too early for us! Plus, within just a few weeks they'll be bringing out their Christmas items, so buy early!!
Caribou Coffee is getting a head start on and will be serving their pumpkin drinks this Friday. According to their Facebook page, they've improved their recipe, which means I'll be there this Friday to try it out. So far no word on when Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts' or Dunn Brothers will start serving their pumpkin drinks, but hopefully it will be within the next couple of weeks.
HauntedWisconsin's very own Director of Marketing, Communications and Special Operations, Dan Strelecki (that's me!) will be on the Portage County airwaves this afternoon. I will be a guest on the What's Your Story show, hosted by Hilary Bilbrey, from 12:20 until 1pm. Tune into WSPT AM1010 for some frightful tales.
Two more Halloween cartoons will on this October! Local Milwaukee antenna station 49.2 WBMEDT2 will be showing Fat Albert's Halloween Special today at 5:30pm and tomorrow (Halloween) from 7-9pm. And ABC will be showing Scared Shrekless on Halloween at 7pm. Rudy and his new friend Devery plan to spend Halloween playing practical jokes on the elderly. They both take aim on Mrs. Bakewell, an old widow living in a spooky house by the graveyard. But the kids get the ultimate scare when two of them don't return from "trick or treating!" Did Mrs. Bakewell have something to do with their...
Village of TerrorAttended on Saturday, October 8 This was my first time attending the Village of Terror and I can say I will definitely return! I’ve never attended such a unique event/haunt before and wish we would have spent the entire night here as we didn’t get to see everything they had. The Village of Terror consists of several haunts, magic shows, shops and other entertainment. Throughout the grounds we saw zombies and vampires roaming about. Unfortunately, we only had time to go through three of their haunted attractions. If I remember correctly, I believe the first one was the...
Dreadwood Haunted ForestAttended on Friday, October 7Dreadwood is located in the middle of nowhere. At least that’s what it feels like to someone who doesn’t know the area at all. We found the entrance easily as there was a red light that shone onto the trees. They also have some signs that show you were to go nearby. We pulled in and weren’t too sure where to go. There was no one or any signs pointing out where to go. We decided to travel the narrow dirt road behind the barn. There were only two or three signs along the...
Haunted HighAttended on Saturday, October 1st We arrived near closing time and at the beginning of the season so we didn’t we have to wait in line long. Haunted High takes place in an actual abandoned high school. Their ticket area is located in the gym and is furnished with teacher’s desks skull lamps. The waiting line is also in the gym located behind a divider curtain. They show movie clips on two walls, so waiting in line doesn’t seem to take as long. There are also concessions that are available to purchase before you get into line. Once it...
The Dark SideAttended on Saturday, October 1st One of the things I like about The Dark Side is how they combine three haunts into one. This year we received a plastic token with The Dark Side name printed on it when we purchased tickets. I was hoping this was something we’d be able to keep, but were told we would need to hand them to the ticket taker before we entered the haunt. Bummer. You can also purchase concessions, Halloween décor and various Dark Side apparel including hoodies and hats in the same building the ticket booth is located in....
Must see Halloween TV - It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown will be on ABC tomorrow night, Thursday, October 27 at 7pm (CST).
The Haunted BarnAttended on Saturday, September 24 I've attended The Haunted Barn in the past and I'm always impressed at how much they improve every year. Last year they added Beetlejuice as a character. He provides some great comic relief, and while he may not seem scary, he does a great job at surprise scares! As I got out of the car I saw some people running toward the parking lot screaming and Beetlejuice wasn't far behind them. What a great way to start off the haunt season! This year, two other characters stood out as well. They were a...
I thought I'd clear the decayed remnants from my keyboard and make a delightful post for all you guys and ghouls on this brisk October night. After many an inquiry, the topic is plain and simple: a baker's dozen of awesome horror films (in no particular order) (and I wouldn't say any of these are 'family-friendly') (well, maybe if you're that family in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre). 28 Days Later Candyman Feast Inside Alien (genre disambiguation, cut me some slack) Suspiria High Tension The Blair Witch Project Frontiere(s) Martyrs The Thing (1982) The Orphan Killer The Exorcism of Emily Rose...
Big Daddy here. I was able to head out this past Saturday to visit the Wisconsin Fear Grounds to see the attraction recently rated #1 by "Haunted Attraction Magazine". I must say, the Magazine was spot-on! Right in our backyard is a haunt that is top-notch, detailed, and ran by true recognized professionals in their field. I do not want to give away any details of the haunt. But I must say that the level of work, blood, and sweat (pun intended) shows in THREE. . .count them THREEE haunted houses in one location. Now, each haunt could stand on...
Just like the title says. . .BIG contest news coming from Haunted Wisconsin and one of your favorite haunts! More details to come. . .Muwhahahahah. . .
Today Caribou Coffee announced their fall items are now available including; Pumpkin Latte's, Pumpkin Bread, Pumpkin White Chocolate Mocha and Caramel Apple Crisp Oatmeal. Caribou seems to change their receipes every year, so I'm curious to see if what their pumpkin latte's are like this year. I personally didn't care for them last year, but liked them in 2009. Have you tried any of these items? Let us know what you think below!
In late August, Starbucks held a contest on Facebook to pick which city would enjoy Pumpkin Spice Latte's a week early. Unfortunately, our neighbors to the south, Chicago, won this contest and have been enjoying their Pumpkin Spice Latte's for a week. However, now that the cold weather has arrived, we finally get to savor in the delicious taste of fall! Starting today, everyone can enjoy yummy pumpkin treats at Starbucks, Culver's and Dunkin' Donuts. Culver's is now serving their Pumpkin Pecan Concrete Mixer, Pumpkin Cheesecake Concrete Mixer and their very yummy Pumpkin Spice Shake. The Dunkin' Donuts full fall...
I checked out our Walgreens the other day to see if any Halloween merchandise yet. Currently the have half an isle stocked with Halloween candy and a few Disney characters in Halloween costumes on the top shelf. I absolutely love when candy companies do more than just print a Halloween design on a large bag of regular wrapped candy, but actually do something fun with the candy itself. I spotted some Kit Kats with a ghost, pumpkin and pirate on the wrapper which said 1 of 4 Spooky bar designs, so of course I bought a couple. I've only opened...
Andy and I stopped out at the Waukesha Menards yesterday and found two and half isles of Halloween merchandise! They have all sorts of Halloween goodies including a selection of nicely priced costumes, Lemax Spooky Town items and a huge $99 Funkin!

Sure, the temps this weekend may be in the 90's, but it's time to start thinking about fall. The 4th of July holiday is over, school supplies are filling store shelves, and "end of summer" sales are taking place (even though technically summer started less than a month ago). Yankee Candle has come out with their new fall fragrances, which include Kitchen Spice and Pumpkin Buttercream (yum!) among others. Dollar Tree stores are slowly bringing out their Halloween items which include the plastic body parts and fingers, and Michaels also has a few items out like Halloween flags and "stuffed"...

Hey peeps! Big Daddy here. I ventured out last night to Wisconsin Fear Grounds. This place was ROCKIN'! From my experience; attendance is a way to tell if a haunt is good. Well, the HUNDREDS of people in line CAN'T be wrong! Ok - I am sure you are interested in Big Daddy's take on this haunt. I must say that this is the BEST haunt in the area! My opinion is based on the size, value, attention to detail, and quality of the actors. Some of the actors are trained professionals - and it shows! All are very passionate...
With the suffering economy we find ourselves cutting corners and sacrificing entertainment. However, the inability to enjoy the simple adventures can make one's soul unhappy. So I've decided to create several recipes for fun in the fall. Since it is early in the fall season, my first “recipe” is for families. A Fall Recipe for the Family Ingredients 9” pie crust ($1.79)1 can evaporated milk ($.95)Cinnamon ($.89)Nutmeg ($.89)Brown Sugar ($1.10)Sugar ($1.12)6 egg whites ($.79)Ginger...
Some of you may have noticed the My Fright Finder feature on Haunted Wisconsin where you can create a list of haunts you want to visit by clicking the skulls in the event list or clicking on the "Add to My Fright Finder" link in event listings.I use the feature to keep track of which haunts I want to go to each weekend. This weekend, I wanted to print the list and realized it looked pretty terrible printed and it didn't have much useful information.Today I added a printable view with a large map, more info for each event (including...

Oh, nooooooooooo! The great pumpkin is down again. The crew at Halloween Express will likely have the store open again soon. They have had plenty of experience at resurrecting the iconic pumpkin shaped store that acts like a beacon for all of us who see it from I-94.WTMJ Article
Big Daddy here:I heard it thru the Halloween grapevine (thanks, Grampa!) that Starbucks had begun selling it's tasty seasonal treat, pumpkin spice latte! After a visit to a few Starbucks in my area, I found it at the Starbucks on highway 100 and Bluemound! I only have one word to say: MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM (is that a word?) BD
Big Daddy here!I was driving down S. 27th street, and low and behold, the Halloween Express anchor store is OPEN FOR BUSINESS! YAY!Needless to say, I stopped in. Have you seen any Halloween items in any local stores?
Big Daddy here. I have been "feenin'" for Halloween for a few weeks now. Why? Because last year, stores began rolling out the Halloween merchandise around June 29th.Not so this year. BUT. . .I was at Michael's on Highway 100 and National today and they began putting out a small Halloween display. Most, if not all, merchandise on this end-of-aisle display was new, never seen before stuff! How exciting! So, let the 2010 Halloween season BEGIN!Big Dahdah

After three days and 385 miles I have attended my four assigned haunts for the 2009 Review Crew. Please keep an eye out for them as they should be posted early this week. As a sneak peak, let me tell you Neenah's Most Haunted, The Haunted Mansion, Oconto Jaycees Trail of Terror, and Terror Trail provided my fiancee and I the best weekend of haunting in recent memory. I want to extend a belated thank you to a few haunts for the hospitatlity and good times given to myself, my friends and family:Spooky Stalks was great again this year. We went on a moonless night which made the Milwaukee County corn maze that much scarier. Bruce, the owner, put on a fantastic show (even though they aren't that scary, right Bruce?) and even mustered a a yelp out of a veteran like me. Good job guys, that's not an easy task! The maze has new scenes and scares for 2009 and is definitely worth the short drive up...

The giant pumpkin at the state fair grounds off of highway 94 was taken down by high winds last night. The clip I just saw on TMJ4 said they will try to get that Halloween Express location back open by Saturday.http://www.todaystmj4.com/news/local/63660897.html

We finally got to get out to some haunts this season! The staff of HauntedWisconsin.com along with our Biggest Fan contest winner and guest headed out for a night of haunting. Our first stop was Paulo's Pizza where we shared an enormous pizza and a huge bowl of garlic bread. We then headed to Monster Mayhem, right in the basement of Paulo's Pizza! We met with the friendly staff and got a quick behind the scenes tour. They really put a lot of work into their haunt and it shows! This is only the second year of Monster Mayhem, but...
I'm sure you will be hearing more details from Johnny shortly but here is a quick summary of tonight. Our biggest fan contest winner, Teri, may actually travel farther and to more haunts than we do! I'm feeling a little pressure to step it up and travel farther and to more haunts so as to not be outdone. Jenny and I have often wondered who the other people are when we are working on the site in February and see the counter read "12 visitors online." It's nice to be able to put some faces to the numbers. We met for pizza...
I just refreshed the reviews page and noticed four new reviews. Thanks everybody! We will be heading out to meet the contest winner in a few minutes. I hope there will be a ton of reviews waiting when we get back late tonight :)This year we are trying a new system where every review you post goes online automatically (updated hourly). We are leaving the moderation to you, the HauntedWisconsin.com community. Vote up the best reviews with a 'yes' vote and vote down the bad reviews with a 'no' vote. At the hourly update, your votes will be counted and the...
Ever want to see reviews from previous years? Well now you can without digging through our archives. Event operators have been asking for this feature for quite a while and we finally made it happen.Jenny and I over the past couple weeks did quite a bit of sorting through the last seven years of reviews, importing everything to the new site, and connecting the reviews to the correct events. The intent is to make the new URLs permanent so if you link to a review using the new year URLs, that link should keep working for a long time. The historical reviews...
This is just a quick note to anyone who missed Hubertus House of Horror last year. The haunt season is just starting so now is a great time to visit those big name haunts that fill up past capacity towards the latter half of October.Jenny and I have visited Hubertus House of Horror many years in the past but when we went last year, the event was already sold out at 7pm! The operators took us on a tour of the house and it was easy to see why. They have really stepped up the effects with some big and...
Okay, it's time for a rant. What is wrong with some communities in Wisconsin (and elsewhere)? Do they not know when Halloween is? It's on the calendar! October 31st, always. Even so, some communities have decided that having trick-or-treat is safer on a Sunday before Halloween. This year Halloween falls on a Saturday. So I thought, great! Trick-or-treat will finally be held on Halloween everywhere, right? WRONG! There are still some communities that have decided to hold trick-or-treat the Sunday before the 31st. I think this takes all of the fun out of Halloween. Once trick-or-treating is over, many kids...
Big Daddy here - here are the details to the contest I promised! Are you "Haunted Wisconsin.com's BIGGEST FAN?" contest! There are two requirements to enter: 1. Be 18 years of age or older 2. Stay tuned; Big Daddy has a very exciting contest coming soon. . .BD
Here is another submission - thanks to Larry from The Haunted Barn for this one!One night, my wife decided to go out to the Barn to make sure there was nothing left in the refrigerator that may freeze since it was winter time and the Haunted Barn had closed for the season. As she walked toward the barn she noticed some lights running. She found it strange since everything is unplugged after we close down. So, she went and shut off the lights and removed a few things from the refrigerator. She told me about the lights and it made no sense...
Here is the first of many ghost story'/paranoramal events that I have received - Thanks to Pamela for this one! As promised, I would post the best:"My youngest son was 3 at the time of this event! The year was 1995. My son woke up about 2 AM screaming, “The man in the overalls was going to hurt the woman in the checkered dress.” My son was crazy with fear. I, doing the mom thing, told him it was just a bad dream. I rocked him in my arms as he was shaking with fear. No matter what I said, he...
Halloween Express is NOW open at the State Fair Park grounds. Actually opened yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised to see the throngs of people parked outside, going in and out.Makes me feel that I am somewhat normal in my obsession with Halloween and everything orange and black. . .GIGGITY!Big Thanks to Todd, whose source about HE opening on the 12th, rather than the 15th, was CORRECT!WORD. . .
Big Daddy here - Thanks and mad props go out to those of you that have submitted your ghost stories! I will be posting some of the stories I have received shortly. Please feel free to continue to send your ghost stories, paranormal experiences, unexplained events, etc.Big Daddy likey!
We're working hard on My Fright Finder and hopefully we can make it a useful tool for remembering haunts you want to visit and planning scary nights out.I added some basic functionality tonight and plan to start adding the good stuff in the coming days and weeks. Right now you can add events from the list or the event pages and delete events from your list. Route planning, notes, and sharing are up next.
Ok - the freakiest thing just happened to me - wifey and I, after putting our son to bed, were sitting in the living room. All of a sudden, a glass on the table in the next room . . . wait for it . . . wait for it . . . SHATTERED! No one was near it, no one was touching it. The glass just shattered!Being a fan of Ghost Hunters, I immediately began to ask questions such as, "Are there any spirits with us" and "If there is someone present, please make a banging sound." This REALLY freaked...
I just got the email that Caribou Coffee now has NEW Fall Wild Drinks available. The flavors are:Hot Wild PumpkinWild Pumpkin CoolerHot Wild Caramel AppleWild Caramel Apple CoolerHopefully the pumpkin drinks are as good, if not better, than last year. Wifey, Mrs. Big Daddy, just told me that the pumpkin is now up at the fair grounds. Seeing that she has me on house arrest for being naughty, I have not yet seen it - but will see it tomorrow!GIGGITY!
Just visited the website for Hauntfest - the haunted house, located on the state fair park grounds. The first thing that caught my eye; this year's theme (and I quote):"Hauntfest welcomes Never Land: (a Michael Jackson Tribute)"Hmm. . .very interesting to see what this entails. . . Owner/operator - my curiousity is DEFINITELY piqued!Johnny

Johnny here - just wanted to officially say thank you to the staff of HW.com for making me one of their own!I am truly humbled and excited to be a member of the family!Your Senior Editor and Special Operations Advisor, Big Daddy
I want to take a minute to welcome the HauntedWisconsin staff's newest team member, Johnny "Big Daddy" Ramos. Johnny is an RC OG, meaning he's one of the four original founding members of the Review Crew from year one. He has contributed greatly to the success of this site, behind the scenes, for several years. Well now he'll be on the front lines as a full time staff member. Besides myself, Johnny is the only other full time slave to Jen and Andy, I mean employee. Mr. Ramos' unique sense of humor and literary skills have proven...
Attention Pumpkin Spice Latte lovers! Today is September 1st which means pumpkin spice latte's are now back at Starbucks. Yum! Never had a pumpkin spice latte? What's wrong with you? According to Starbucks.com they are "a delicious blend of pumpkin and traditional fall spice flavors combined with our signature espresso and freshly steamed milk, and topped with whipped cream and pumpkin pie spices". To me, they are the delicious taste of fall and unofficial drink of HauntedWisconsin.com. Be sure to stop at your favorite Starbucks location and pick one up today!Caribou Coffee should have their pumpkin drinks out in a couple of weeks....
For those of you that use Firefox, check out this VERY COOL theme (and free, I must add!) https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1360
Just checked the Wisconsin State Fair Park website and saw two exciting things: 1. Halloween Express will be open on September 15th; 2. Harvest Fair is September 25th -27th Check it out: http://www.wistatefair.com/event_calendar/sept.html
My son just celebrated his first birthday! He was born at the end of July. Last year, he was way too young to appreciate the Halloween season (even though I still took him trick-or-treating! I ate the candy. . .)It will truly be awesome this year to see Halloween thru his eyes. . .I will share my findings and my re-discovery of the holiday thru my son's eyes!Big Daddy
I journeyed over to Bartz's today on highway 100. They are starting to put out their Halloween stuff, but only had about a half of an aisle out. Literally, as I looked, the clerk was putting stuff out.Give 'em a few days and it will be loaded with our favorite Halloween stuff!
The word on the streets, and by streets I mean from an employee at the local Waukesha Starbucks, says the nectar of Autumn gods will make its triumphant return on September 1st. Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks locations near you, 09.01.09. Mark it on your iPhone, PDA, calendar or tattoo it on your forehead.
Hey Halloween freaks, Big Daddy here! Halloween is in the air - especially after today's high is only in the upper 60's. . .MMM can almost smell the scent of cooking pumpkin seeds. . .Been making my way to the usual stores to check out the Halloween merchandise. . . I have endured the funny faces and odd stares when I ask when the merchandise will be out. . .but there are a couple of stores that are already getting into the "spirit". . . Luckily, I now have someone to take with me - my one year old son....
So I wanted to let everyone know that the Yankee Candle store in Brookfield Square has an assortment of limited edition Halloween candles and accessories in stock. The on-hand stock is quickly depleting and the guy working today said when it's gone it's gone. They have everything from tealight holders to votives to their signature large jar candles. Yankee Candle has released Halloween themed scents including Moonlight Harvest, Patchouli, Candy Corn, Autumn Leaves and various pumpkin spiced candles. Don't miss out on the selection if you're interested, get there soon!!
This is my first blog entry in quite some time and for good reason: I've lost my creative edge lately. However, I practice makes better. I just wanted to say that your favorite Halloween website and staff are hard at work behind the scenes. Site updates, 5 hour meetings, lots of coffee, hidden zombies, Review Crew.09 rising from the grave and plenty of new Haunts across Wisconsin ready to assist to the ICU (Involuntary Cowering Urination). -- Cheers and Fears.
Today we upgraded the sites underlying framework to Django 1.1 and fixed the various bugs that cropped up. Let me know if you run in to any zombies caused by the upgrade.I made comments system to be a little nicer. Try it out and see if you like the new system. Finally, when you log in, you are now taken directly to your account page where you can manage your haunt information, blog, fright finder, etc.Enjoy!
It's that time of year! Over the past week, I received two email ad's from Grandin Road and The Lakeside Collection letting me know that Halloween merchandise was now available on their websites. Grandin Road is the pricier of the two, but has a nice selection and some decorations I haven't seen elsewhere. They also carry Martha Stewart's Halloween line. It seems that sparkle and bling is in for Halloween this year. The Lakeside Collection only has a few Halloween items, but they do have a very spooky standing ghoul that's over 5ft tall and is only $19.95! They also have...
We've added zombies somewhere on the site...Also, we're experimenting with an iPhone interface located at http://www.hauntedwisconsin.com/mobile/.
Jenny and I made lots of small updates to the site this weekend. Some of the changes are:Added e-Ticket info for eventsSome cosmetic changes to the event pagesUsing your message board account on the rest of the site should work betterMake it easier for event operators to update their listingsAdd sharethis links to news, blogs, and events pagesWe have lots more planned for the next few months. Let me know if there are some changes you would like to see (post to the comments below or send me an email).
October is only three months away, so now is the time to start getting ready for Halloween. No, it's not too early! According to employees at several local Michaels craft stores, shipments of Halloween merchandise will begin arriving tomorrow, Thursday, July 2nd! Hopefully other stores won't wait until late September to bring out their Halloween merchandise, and unlike Walmart, will at least bring out Halloween before Christmas!
According to The Muppet Newsflash, Disney is developing the idea of a Muppet Halloween special to air on TV this fall! You may also be able to dress up as your favorite Muppets character for Halloween this year. Disney is working on a line of Halloween costumes based on the Muppets including Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, and Swedish Chef.
I came across a great site today, Design Bliss, which has over 150 links to free clipart, spooky photoshop tips and other Halloween design resources. Even if you don't have a website, the clipart would be very handy when creating party invitations or cards. Hope it comes in handy!
Wow, I'm not sure how I managed to go through the entire haunt season without updating! I guess it's been a pretty busy month! I missed out on Haunts this past weekend as I was visiting family up north and could not find any haunts nearby :( I am hoping to get out this weekend and try some out. I always go to Dewayne Asylum and I haven't made it yet and I want to check out Splatter Haus's new location too, but with Halloween three days away and my little sister having a Halloween party on the 1st I'm...
There have been a few requests to put comments back on reviews. The feature is now back.Comment away!
One of my favorite Halloween cartoons, It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown will air on ABC Tuesday, October 28, 2008 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. CST. Afterwards, ABC will also be showing a 'bonus' peanuts cartoon in which Linus runs for class president. So set your DVR and carve some pumpkins while watching this holiday classic."You didn't tell me you were going to kill it!"
On Friday, October 10th Andy, Dan, Sarah and I headed north and went to the following haunts:Dominion of TerrorThe House of BathoryNightmare on MainSplatter HausOur first stop was the Sheboygan Jaycees Dominion of Terror. This was our second year visiting and we looked forward to seeing what was new. Everything! The sets this year were amazing! My favorites included the city scenes, butcher shop and of course movie theater. Kudos to the butcher! The clown near the end was super creepy and still haunts me. The last scene seemed to lack a bit as we were expecting something more to happen, but overall, you could see...
There is something creepy going on in Wisconsin and you don't want to miss it. I've been to seven events so far and I can tell you each one is worth whatever it takes to get there. In the order visited:Wisconsin FeargroundsThis is really three events in one location. If you've got the cash, see all three -- the progression from one to the next adds to the effect. If the economy's got a hold on your wallet and you have to pick one, check out Morgan Manor or Morgana's Torment if you like to be spooked or Freaky's Funhouse if...
I've been meaning to write a follow-up to the haunts Andy, Dan and I have traveled to so far this season and will do my best now. My memory has never been that great, so I apologize if I don’t mention any important pieces. Our first outing consisted of Johnny's wife, Johnny, his friend, Sarah, Andy, me and Dan.On Friday, October 3rd we visited:Wisconsin FeargroundsMonster MayhemMars Haunted HouseThe first stop was the Wisconsin Feargrounds. This haunt grew again this year and now consists of three haunts; Morgan Manor, Morgana’s Torment and Freaky’s Funhouse. We were one of the first groups to...
If you are using IE7, you may have noticed the text in reviews can disappear. I put in a workaround for that rendering bug today. It's the same workaround I put in for IE6 yesterday.Hopefully everyone can read the reviews now. Let me know if anything else looks weird. Thanks to all of you that reported the bug.
Andy, Dan and I will be checking out haunts again this Friday. We'll also be dragging Johnny along again if he's not stuck working on Saturday morning. This week we'll be visiting some of the haunts along I-43 including the Sheboygan Jaycees: Dominion of Terror, The House of Bathory, Splatter Haus and Nightmare on Main. Last year was the first year I had been to the Dominion of Terror. They did a great job, especially during the heat we had that first weekend. Splatter Haus also did a great job as always and I can't wait to see what they've...
Sorry about the intermittent errors throughout the day. I was making a bunch of changes throughout the site and I cringed every time an error log flashed by as one of you attempted to load a page that I broke.Anyway, not that I'm done breaking things, here is what is new:Improved review layoutBetter submit review formNew form for review crew members (contact Jennifer for the link if you need it)Improved Review Crew pageBigger event name on the printable info pagesEnjoy!
Halloween Haunts will be back this year on TODAY's TMJ 4. Submit your Halloween decorated house or one you've seen by sending an email to [email protected] or send pictures or a video clip. Then tune in to see all the spooky houses starting October 13th at 10pm.
With October here, the changes have become more noticeable. The leaves turn colors, peoples moods change, the temperature changes, and all the buildings that sit dormant 11 months out of the year begin emitting sounds of horror and thrills as the occupants wake up for another season of scares. This is defineitely a great time of year. Today after work I am going to harvest gourds and pumpkins, that have been changing since spring when they were planted. It's always fun to see what the garden is hiding amongst all the leaves and vines. There are always a few surprises...
We made a whole bunch of updates today:Fixed the calendar on event details pagesAdded weather links to event detailsAdded a printable event listing view with lots of handy infoFixed the accounts to work with the messageboard logins againAdded a submit review form...and moreThe review form will be undergoing some more changes but start submitting your reviews anyway. We'll do any conversions needed on our end to make sure your reviews follow whatever format we end up with.
We will be at the Wisconsin Feargrounds located at the Waukesha Expo Center tonight. Come on out and say "Hi."This is a great time of the season to see this haunt because of the huge crowds they draw later in October once the word gets out. Dress warmly though, tonight is supposed to be chilly.
Dunkin' Donuts Pumpkin Lattes, muffins and donuts are now available along with their festive Fall Decorated Donuts. Unfortunately there aren't any Dunkin Donuts near me anymore, but I'm sure they're pretty tasty! Yes, I love pumpkin flavored food - can you tell?
It's that time again! Time for jack-o-lantern and pumpkin spice cake doughnuts at Krispy Kreme. Yum! The jack-o-lantern doughnuts will be available through the end of October and the pumpkin spice cake will be available through the end of November.Check out their web site to see their Halloween commercial!
Kevin Hash is an inspiring young lad at 13 years of age. He went before the Appleton common council and requested that trick-or-treat be held until 8pm instead of the original 7pm to accommodate changes in family lifestyles and daylight savings time. I hope more communities take this into account as well and extend their trick-or-treat times until 8pm when holding Halloween on a weekday. Most households now have both parents working and by the time they get home, feed the kids, get their costumes/make-up on, trick-or-treat is almost over. Let kids have this opportunity to be kids, get dressed...

Well, it HAS BEGUN! We are about to venture out on our first group outing of the year (and ever, at least for me!) and we are going to hit the Wisconsin Feargrounds THIS Friday night, October 3rd! http://www.wisconsinfeargrounds.com/index.htmlCome join us! E-mail us (or me at [email protected]) if you want to hit a haunted house, or THREE, with some real "pros", er Halloween junkies!Johnny a.k.a. Big Daddy
I'm posting this evening with a little sad news from the north. One of my favorite haunts of the past few years, Transylmazeia at the Marion Amazement Park in Marion WI, is closed. A check of the parks website says the park is closed and the business is for sale. They were a very unique haunt, using an actual wooden maze and transforming it into a corridor of haunts. While they did not use it as a maze during haunt season, occasional wrong turns were to be expected. This was the first haunt I ever attended that allowed touching, and it...
As everyone knows, things online can differ greatly from the real world. For example on here I can say that I'm 6'5" 250 lbs, but in reality I'm 6'1" 270 lbs. Quite a difference huh? At the same time, in pretty rare instances people and things are the same in both worlds. Why do I bring this up? On Sturday I had the opportunity for the first time to meet the people behind this site, Jenny and Andy. Right away I realized they are exactly like they are on here. I don't want to steal the points that Andy made in...
Thanks Carrie for the following information! Racine will likely be changing their current trick-or-treat day/hours from Friday, October 31, 4-6 p.m. due to numerous complaints. You can vote for your favorite date on The Journal Times web site. The dates and times you can choose from are Friday, October 31, 5-7 p.m., Saturday, November 1, 4-6 p.m. and Sunday, November 2, 4-6 p.m. Click here to read the article and vote.
Last night I got to meet a few of the review crew members and it turns out they are as extraordinary in real life as they are online.I don't know much about most of the Review Crew members other than what can be gleaned from the applications and reviews they write but if pud27, majorXpsycho, dirkadirka, and those I've met in the past are any indication, than Wisconsin is one lucky state to have such talented and passionate individuals. We spend countless hours pouring over every application and weighing different factors when selecting the review crew members. It's hard because we...
I'll admit it. I don't go to the mall very often. I was never really into the whole mall thing. Maybe it's cause I'd end up buying everything I wanted and would be in massive credit card debt (or because everything is too pricey for my cheap taste).Well anyway, I got an email from Bath & Body Works which announced their new Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin scent. YUM! (I gotta get me some of that!). Well there was also a link to their new Halloween shop. I never thought Bath & Body Works would have Halloween items! So now of course, that...
Yarrrrr! Ahoy ye landlubbers. Today be talk like a pirate day! Celebrate this fine holiday by wearing ye best eye patch and filling up on some grog. Or watch some mighty fine pirate booty tonight on the USA Network. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest will be on at 7PM tonight and tomorrow night. Before I go into my first post, I just want to introduce myself. My name is Adam, but I go by pud27 on the message boards and reviews. I'm a member of the Review Crew-have been since the beginning. I'm from the big town of Denmark, which is just south of Green Bay on I-43. I am 22 and engaged to my high school sweetheart who I've been dating for 5 1/4 years. In this space I hope to keep you updated on Halloween and fall happenings from Northeast Wisconsin, as well as throw out a few thoughts that cross...

Oh, it is SO ON! The leaves are beginning to fall, the pumpkins are starting to be sold (my wifey brought me some from the U.P. of Michigan quite a number of days ago, so HA!), the BIG Halloween Express PUMPKIN is now up at the State Fair Grounds (near the Petit), and Harvest Fest 2008 is a mere two weeks away; the weekend of September 26th thru 28th!For those of you who have never heard of it, it is bigger and better every year! Here is a link - be sure to download the brochure for the schedule of...
Hey all of you Halloween "freaks!" I, just like Jenny, was doing some Halloween TV snooping, and found that ABC will be hosting the annual 13 Nights of Halloween! One word - AWESOME! I love everything about Halloween, especially the TV shows! I really enjoy emersing myself in the Halloween spirit and nothing beats watching Halloween themed shows on a cold and dreary October eve - hot cocoa and carving pumpkins, with a good Halloween show on in the background - what's better than that?Oh yea, back to ABC Family - for those of you with HD - the channel is...
I love watching the many horror movies on AMC as well as TCM (see other post), so after I saw the TCM schedule I checked out the AMC site for their Monsterfest schedule. Their general TV listing schedule doesn't go to far into October yet, so I did a search. I came across news that they changed the name from MONSTERFEST to FEARFEST and shortened the number of days it's on. Fearfest will run from Friday, October 24 through Halloween night. Personally, I prefer the Monsterfest name and more days of horror movies. Why change it?Anyways, here's the schedule I...
October is right around the corner which means more Halloween and horror movies on TV! The review crew application had an annoying limitation of 200 characters for any response (and you got an unhelpful "500 Server Error" if you went over that limit). This is the same bug we had last year that got a temporary fix then. Now I put the fix back in place and made it permanent this time. The application should be able to handle as much as you wish to type now. Sorry for the inconvenience.
I love coffee. Especially pumpkin flavored coffee. So, I was very happy this morning when I checked my email and saw that I had received a coupon from Caribou Coffee announcing that I could get $1.00 off... Good news for those of us who shopped at the Bartz's in Brookfield. While at the Westbrook Shopping Center (E. Mooreland & Springdale Rd.) Andy and I spotted what looked like the Bartz's logo. We checked it out and saw signs in their windows saying they would be opening soon. They'll be in the old (Joanne?) fabrics store where Halloween Express was located e a couple years ago. We peaked in the window and saw some Halloween decorations set up.To help build our excitment for the upcoming season, we had a tradition of going to the Bartz's in Brookfield a couple weeks after...

Unfortunately, Bartz's closed their Brookfield location this year, so anyone who used to frequent that store (like Andy & I) will now have to travel to Greenfield, Menomonee Falls or Wauwatosa... or just find another party/Halloween store to check out. Since the Brookfield location always seemed to have some stuff out right after the 4th of July, I did some calling to find out when their Halloween merchandise will be out. It sounds like it will be at least a couple of more weeks till some items are out. However, costumes are always in stock. :P
OOooooooooooooooooooo!!! Look at Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I have a bllllaaaaaawwwwwwwggggg! I'm special. PUMPKINS!!!!!!
Every year, I wait upon baited breathe, for the arrival of the first Halloween merchandise of the season! And every year, to my surprise, it has arrived earlier and earlier. Last year, I began checking for Halloween stuff around the end of July. Fortunately, I was able to find items that began trickling in at the local Wally World, Targea, and Michaels. This year, I had a feeling; call it intuition or a 666 sense. . . But on June 28, I stopped off at the Michael's on hwy 100 and National Avenue . . . low and behold, HALLOWEEN...
According to the Brown Deer and Brookfield Michaels stores, Halloween merchandise should begin arriving THIS THURSDAY (July 3rd)! Johnny has already seen some Halloween goodies at the Michaels in West Allis!! Check out his blog for more updates.
