(Updated: 9/24/12) October is almost here which means we'll soon start seeing pumpkins, monsters and other spooky things on TV. Here's a listing of some of the Halloween specials that will air this year. This list will be updated as we get more information, so keep checking back! (Listed in order of first air date)

Travel Channel - Making Monsters - Sept. 30 (series)

Making Monsters is a fascinating look at the world of animatronics and mask makers. Ed Edmunds and his small staff work tirelessly in Greeley, CO, to create some of the scariest animatronics and “frightronics” the haunt industry has ever seen. Ed and his company, Distortions Unlimited, are known in this industry as innovators with their impeccable design and execution.

SyFy 31 Days of Halloween - Oct. 1-31

SyFy's 31 Days of Halloween will premiere on Monday, October 1 kicking off with the horror movie-themed “Countdown to 31 Days of Halloween” running September 23-30, and will conclude with a live Halloween episode of Face Off

Travel Channel - Halloween Crazier - Oct. 7 & 8

The original one-hour special “Halloween Crazier” features the most terrifying and absolute best of what Halloween has to offer. From a mental hospital turned haunted house in Spring City, PA, to running for your life at the 5K Zombie Race in Darlington, MD, this special reveals some of the nation’s most extreme Halloween activities. But there’s more to the holiday than just ghosts and goblins, as viewers will get to experience a pumpkin racecar derby and underwater pumpkin-carving contests in Damariscotta, ME, and visit Highwood, IL – a town with so many lit jack-o-lanterns they may break a world record!

Food Network- Halloween Wars - Oct. 7

Just when you thought it was safe to walk past that old house or take a shortcut through the cemetery comes this deliciously scary four-part series: Halloween Wars. Five teams of cake decorators, candy makers and amazing pumpkin carvers will unite to prove they are the best, walk home with a big cash prize and scare our pants off with some of the most amazing horror tales — all made from cake, candy and pumpkins. Grab onto someone you love, and bring your appetite 'cause the cold night of Halloween is about to get heated up.

Fox - Treehouse of Horror XXIII - Oct. 7

The 23rd annual "Treehouse of Horror," will travel back to ancient times when a Mayan Homer and Marge are witness to the prediction that 2012 will be the end of the world, the Springfield Subatomic Supercollider creates a black hole that terrorizes the city, a little unholy pact Marge when she was younger makes things go bump in the night and Bart travels to 1974 to buy a comic book at cover price but inadvertently disrupts Homer and Marge’s courtship.

HGTV - Halloween Tricked Out - Oct. 12 & 27

See the most amazing haunts and homegrown Halloween installations in the country.

AMC Fearfest - Oct. 15-31

Movies include: Pet Sematary, Cujo, House on Haunted Hill, Bride of Frankenstein, and Friday the 13th.

ABC Family 13 Nights of Halloween - Oct. 19-31

Movies include: The Addams Family, Scooby-Doo, Monster House, Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, and Hocus Pocus.

HGTV - Pumpkin Wars - Oct. 31

Travel to Highwood, Illinois and Keene, New Hampshire as these two towns face-off in an attempt to win the Guinness World Record for “The Most Lit Jack-O-Lanterns In One Location.” In order to claim the title, one of these towns will need to carve a jaw dropping 32,000 pumpkins.
