Seven Scares to See
There is something creepy going on in Wisconsin and you don't want to miss it. I've been to seven events so far and I can tell you each one is worth whatever it takes to get there.
In the order visited:
This is really three events in one location. If you've got the cash, see all three -- the progression from one to the next adds to the effect. If the economy's got a hold on your wallet and you have to pick one, check out Morgan Manor or Morgana's Torment if you like to be spooked or Freaky's Funhouse if you like bizarre fun more than the scares. Bring your friends -- even waiting in line is a good time with the creatures wandering everywhere.
This is a new haunt so I didn't know what to expect but what I got was still a surprise. This is a high production value walk-through story -- the sort of thing you might expect Disney World to have. I loved it. Monster Mayhem is something you won't want to miss.
Mars is the darkest haunt I've been to be sure so look closely to see the detailed creepiness. Also, listen to the disembodied voice at the beginning -- it was my favorite part but Jenny completely missed it. Minor spoiler -- if a spook invites you to touch what's in the bowl, don't! You don't want to know what it is... The actors are top notch and go the extra mile to be sure that you leave at least a little unsettled.
Take a delightfully stroll through h e l l. Amazing sets and great actors make this event a huge improvement over last year and it was already good then. Definitely check this one out and try not to lose your shoes at the end...
Here we met Jenny's new hero. Dawn turned her house into a huge haunted house. Every room is extremely detailed with things you've never seen in a haunt before but are reminiscent of iconic movies and childhood memories. The actors fit the set's perfectly and riff off of the guests words and actions. The whole thing reminds me of a nightmare after being in bed with the flu and watching movies all day. Go through twice because there is too much to see in one pass.
Unexpected, awesome, lost...
Something that most haunts don't do is real mazes. This haunt is almost all mazes. We got lost over and over and it was a heck of a lot of fun. When you get there, you'll be pretty sure you are at the wrong place. Don't leave! Go in the not-at-all spooky shop, buy some tickets (and some refreshments if there is going to be a wait), and get ready for a totally unique haunt.
These guys put on a show like nobody else. The monsters are bigger, the rooms are bigger, and the effects are over the top. I don't want to say much about the haunt because a lot of what is great about Splatter Haus is the misdirection in the way things unfold so I'll just say go and check it out.
