This haunted was disappointing. Marketed as a professional haunt and charging a professional price, this site fell short on so many levels. First, the venue is prefect. This site had some really cool set-ups, (the fair and basement areas) but even with those sets, there was missed opportunities to really take it to the next level. I'm not sure if it was the lack of actors or what, but walking thru these areas was like.... well, meh! There could have been a creepy organ grinder playing in the background, some of the games could have been clever with some morbid twist. The upstairs areas has a few good things, but not rememberable. I'm not sure what's scary about an old mattress on the floor. Our group did go Halloween weekend and the crew may have been burnt out at this point of the season. We had issues buying tickets online and when we arrived, we were put in the regular line and not the fast-pass line. Plenty of room for improvement.

Summary

I'm glad that there is a haunt close to Madison but our group won't be attending next year. Mostly because we have other haunts to check-out. But we do plan on checking Scaryland out in '17 and hope that this new haunt grows and takes advantage of a perfect location. Charging Dungeon of Doom prices... the Scaryland team should really check that haunt out and pull some ideas from them.

I have to say Scaryland is truly unique and my fiance and I have been to quite a few Haunts in Southern Wisconsin.
What makes it special? Imagine you're walking in a room that's pitch black , no one wants to go first so it's on you. You can't see anything so you use your hands to try to find a wall or door, anything to get out. As you extend your arm, one of your friends grabs it and whispers she's scared.
Wait! How is that possible? I'm leading ALL my friends, there's is NO ONE in front of me. OMG that's not my friends hand!
I've never been more afraid in my LIFE b/c at Scaryland the actors can TOUCH YOU! Dead serious and it works because you don't realize it.... until you DO! It's not excessive and the actors are very professional, but it adds a layer of realness that's kind of unbelievable.

Summary

Go to it!! The Haunt lasts 30-40 min and the BEST part about it is you have NO idea what's real and what's fake!

Looks can be deceiving! Driving up to Wisconsin Scaryland, it just looked like any other large building. But inside this average looking dwelling was another story!

The line for Wisconsin Scaryland was impressive! It’s clear that this is a very popular attraction, the wait was close to two hours! There are two separate wait lines: one outside and one inside. The smoke alarm kept going off as they were using a fog machine in the inside wait area. At first I thought that was just another sound effect until I saw a worker keep fanning the air by the alarm to make it stop. Although it’s very expensive, you might want to consider the 'Jump The Line' ticket. Especially on a cold night where you're waiting over an hour!

Your journey starts in an elevator where they lay out the rules. It's there that you learn that you cannot touch the actors, but they CAN touch you! It's good that they state this right up front so visitors are not too freaked out when it happens. Then you ascend to the "13th" floor and to the horror that awaits you.

There are three different themes in Wisconsin Scaryland: the Westport Penitentiary, Toxic, and the Carnevil Big Chop Circus. While some haunts would make these three separate attractions, here they flow from one theme into the next.

There were so many great staged scenes: The cemetery, the circus, the trashed bathroom (SO gross), the nursery, the dentist office... every room was done very well! They had them all dimly lit to perfection. Unfortunately not all the rooms had actors in them, but everything was great to look at.

As mentioned above, one thing that makes this haunt unique is that they the actors can touch you. This isn’t over-done, but just enough to freak you out! There were a few times where someone grabbed or lightly touched me. Their timing was great!

The haunt seemed to end abruptly. I thought we were walking into the next scene and it really was the exit. I didn't want it to end!!! In talking with other visitors, everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. A tip that I didn't find out until after my visit: Purchase your ticket online for a nice discount!

Signage / Visibility / Location

It's pretty easy to find Wisconsin Scaryland, and you'll definitely see the crowd of people waiting in line.

Wait Area / Line Entertainment

There were a few actors walking around as you waited in line. Nothing scary, but definitely entertaining! It was a little confusing where you needed to purchase your tickets.

Actors' Performance

Most all of the actors did a great job and really went all out. Even the nurses that take your money were great!

Sets Scenes / Props / FX

All the scenes and props in Wisconsin Scaryland are top notch. You would expect them to be, considering that Halloween FX Props designed it!

Length

It took approximately 20 minutes to make our way through all three themes.

Crowd Control

It was a very busy night, and there were several times we bumped into other groups.

Most Memorable Moment

I have to say that the one thing that I remember most was walking through a large public bathroom. The janitor was hilarious!

Summary

Long lines, but well worth the wait! All in all, Wisconsin Scaryland is a very professional and well run haunt!

This one wins a most improved prize in my mind. They have professional style special effects and incredible make up work. They could again this year use more actors but they are gaining steam and I hope they continue to grow and succeed because they are heading the fright direction and will eventually be one of the best we have.

My husband and I did a Groupon for Jump the line tickets (50% off) well worth it, in our opinion at the reduced pricing. I'm a haunted house nut and I LOVED this haunt!!! We were dripping with sweat afterwards, scared from the moment we neared the entrance!!! The "dead" spots throughout the haunt were a welcome break from the fantastic actors!!
There was light touching (of legs) which TOTALLY made it 10 times as scary because you never expected that and kept you wondering what/who that was and if/when it was going to happen again!!! Empty your bladder before you enter....!!! HIGHLY recommend this one!!!

Summary

EXCELLENT Haunt...even my "tough guy" hubby was nervous (as he said...to me he was frightened!!!!) and that doesn't happen to him easily at all!!!

This is a decent haunt. The actors working the waiting line are very ... "friendly". It's a very nice touch. This is a hands-on haunt, though, I've found, and a little rougher than I care for, especially when they are grabbing at legs. They seemed a little light on staff tonight, maybe, so there were several areas where I felt that there could be more going on, but the sceneries in all areas was really impressive. I especially liked the Opthamology area. My husband and I did go through as just the two of us, unlike other haunts that may group you with other folks for sizing. Overall, it was an okay haunt, and a nice little date-night jaunt.

Summary

Decent haunt, great decor, fair price.
