Signage / Visibility / Location
Easy to find at the State Fair grounds.
Wait Area / Line Entertainment
There was a tent with music and food. Plenty of decorations and good atmospheric music. Also a couple of unexpected suprises!
Most Unique
The pirate theme was something I hadn't seen before and was well done, The 3-D effects in the fright factory were stunning and the combination of actors and effects made for quite a scary and disorienting walk-thru haunt.
Actors' Performance
The actors in both haunts were great! The "Blood Cove" had a variety of performances that really set the mood especially at the gallows! The "Fright Factory' had an awesome greeter in the first area who freaked out people in our group right from the start. Many of the actors make-ups were very creepy and the 3-D stuff was awesome!
Appropriate For
14+
Summary
Our group was fairly large and we got the VIP passes so we didn't have to wait which was worth the few dollars more. I was at this event last year and the quality keeps going up, I look forward to seeing what Hauntfest does next year!

Wait Area / Line Entertainment
There was some great music being played in a big tent, so even if you were just walking from the first haunt to the second one, you got to hear it, and it really put everyone in a good mood.
Most Unique
The Pirate Haunt was fabulous! It was much longer than I expected, so we kept getting sad as we got to where we figured it ended, but it just kept going, and that was great. The whole pirate haunt was great, and, as one of my friends said on our way out, "it was very poppy-outy."
Actors' Performance
The actors were great! They were very respectful about the rule to not touch anyone, and they stayed out of my personal space, while still being really scary.
Appropriate For
14 and up
Summary
A definite must-see. If you miss it, you will regret it, because the haunts were really scary, and really fun. Also, don't forget to scream: it makes everything more fun.

Signage / Visibility / Location
It was very easy to get to if you know where you are going.. it is very obvious with all the flashing lights.
Wait Area / Line Entertainment
The wait area was awesome! I loved how there were characters chasing you around.. they really got into it!
Most Unique
the most unique for the 3-D haunted house was the rotating circle that you had to walk through, you get very dizzy but it was very cool!
Actors' Performance
i went to both events, and for the indoor 3-D haunted house, I thought the actors did a great job! I could tell that they really got into it and I liked how well the makeup was done

Signage / Visibility / Location
Hard to miss. Right off the Interstate.
Wait Area / Line Entertainment
It was a slow, drizzly night, so there wasn't much going on. There was a tent with music going which kept me moving and staying warm.
Most Unique
Beautiful 3-D artwork. Visually disorienting and creepy!
Actors' Performance
Some were better than others, but the key performances were all excelent. Especially the Greeter to the 3-D attraction. Actors did a good job of picking out different people in the group to spook.
The warewolves in the Blood Cove attraction have good timing.
Appropriate For
12+
Summary
Even though it was cold and drizzly, there was quite a line. We got the "RVIP" passes to skip the line, which was great.

Signage / Visibility / Location
Signage was straightforward, and we had no problems finding the site.
Wait Area / Line Entertainment
The waiting area was a tent space with plenty to do and see while we waited, although there was very little wait because there were two houses to tour.
Most Unique
Blood Cove is by far the most unique and organized haunt I've been to in years. Rather than a series of disjointed and unrelated pop-ups and sound-blast startles, the operators of Blood Cove created a story for us to get involved in.
Actors' Performance
The actors were very into their roles, which demanded actual acting ability rather than your typical pop-out-and-scream scares.
Appropriate For
14+
Summary
Both haunts at Hauntfest are HUGE, and it is apparent immediately that the operators, builders and even actors have put in a tremendous amount of thought, time and effort into these haunts. Clearly an exceptional crew whose creativity sets them apart from the typical haunt. Blood Cove is so big we went through three times and discovered more details each time!

It's amazing how they manage to scare people surrounded by neon 3D images! Also I've never found pirates so terrifying in such a fun way.
Actors' Performance
The actors did an excellent job surprising me time after time and many were creepy enough to keep me looking over my shoulder long after I had passed them.
Summary
When you think you know what's coming next, think again. These haunts are unique, fun and frightening!!

Signage / Visibility / Location
State fair park was easy to find, was up the road from the cafe we went for dinner. 5 bones to park was lame but I guess that was the state fairs deal.
Wait Area / Line Entertainment
Pretty good, didn't wait long, they have a VIP system you can get online. I did see some girl was eating out a head, kinda freaky.
Most Unique
sliding zombies
Actors' Performance
90% of the actors seemed to be really into it. Most were great at their scares, a few just seemed to be ornaments. Killy Killmores was freaky with the 3-D, the pirate theme was cool.

Summary
had a good time, spent a little time talking to the people that were wearing sweatshirts outside, think they were like escorts for the roaming people. told me I could volunteer but I want to go to some more huanted houses

Signage / Visibility / Location
Super easy to find. Right off of 84th and Greenfield Ave.
Wait Area / Line Entertainment
Tent with DJ, tables and chairs. a couple of really cool costumed actors. If there check out the port-a-potty.
Most Unique
I was really surprised how different the two felt and looked. The inside was almost bright and bouncy but in that clowns-eating-your-face way. Yet dark and creepy too. Oh, be careful of the whole in the floor. The Pirate Cove looked so dark and creepy. I liked the story line, my group felt like we were part of things. It was fun to be part of the hanging.
Actors' Performance
There was nowhere SAFE! At lest that is what I felt like. I started off in the middle, I tried the back and wasn't even safe in the front! Reading the other reviews I don't know if they got more actors or they just got better, but I felt like they were everywhere. The actors did a great job. I enjoyed interacting with all of the pirates, very entertaining. Awesome job!!!
Appropriate For
inside 13+ outside 12+
Summary
Nice job! I will be there next year. Appropriate for ages: outside some other reviews wrote ages 10+ but there was some really gross (but good) scenes one of the girls in my group started gagging.
On the way out we got asked which one was better... I would say Go and See Them Both!

Nothing was unique. Just paint and the same thing through the whole thing.
Actors' Performance
Terrible, always went after first person in the group after that person saw them
Summary
Very boring, no scare factor, not worth $10.00.

Signage / Visibility / Location
State fair park is easy to find, and there is no way you can miss it with it being right off of 84th street.
Wait Area / Line Entertainment
1&1/2 hours or so. There was a tent for one of the haunts that the wait line went into, but I think it was meant more to entertain after you went through already. There were some actors, but the croud was getting kinda rough with them at one point, so there weren't many of them out there. It would have been nice to hang out in the tent and wait for your number or color to be called instead of just a line. Some haunts do that.
Most Unique
The 3D effects I had only seen here last year. Also there are little kids (I think they are little kids) in one area singing... very creepy. Also, the themed idea of a haunted house is unique instead of just random scares. It was a good change.
Actors' Performance
The actors inside of the 3D house were GREAT. I was thinking that this couldn't be the same group as last year. It was so much better and longer. There were a lot of actors and a lot of scares. I really liked that there were scares from all sides. The outdoor house was themed also. It told this story and was a lot of fun to walk through. Most haunted trails aren't very good. This one I think is HUGE, and it is hard to block all of the light from the road. I was pretty suprised by the fire effects. I didn't think they could do that. This house wasn't as "packed" with scares as the indoor one. They gave you a little breathing room between scares, and that was GREAT. Ther was a lot to look at and sceens to interact with people. I am not sure which I liked better, I'm glad I went to both.
Appropriate For
12+ indoor; 10+ outdoor

Signage / Visibility / Location
signage was good, location was good.
Wait Area / Line Entertainment
not much of a wait area but there was a arcade/dj tent for entertainment before or after -geared more towards teenagers.
Most Unique
the 3-d effects/glasses in the fear factory.
Actors' Performance
Fear Factory- the guy that tells you the rules and lets you in- very very good at setting up the scares. Wasn't totally impressed by the other attraction felt it needed more monsters.
Appropriate For
10 and up
Summary
when we attended the "sneak peak" the fear factory was more satisfactory then when we went back to view both in completion. Both attractions could have used more monsters for a better effect.

Signage / Visibility / Location
Easy to find at State Fair Park, enter on 84th St just north of Greenfield Ave. If you're parking in their lot, be prepared for the $5 fee.
Wait Area / Line Entertainment
Concessions are always appreciated on chilly October nights. The tent with the DJ, arcade games, and mechanical bull took my group out of the "haunted house" mood but kept us entertained. Could have used a little more "Halloween" feel to it. There were no actors walking around outside.
Most Unique
The most unique thing about this house was the 3D. Using 3D effects is relatively new for haunted houses and is very stimulating to the senses, although not as frightening.
Actors' Performance
I only went into the 3D Fear Factory, not the outdoor Zombie Zone. I really liked Killy Killmore as he greeted us. He was quick witted and humorous, too bad you only see him such a short while. The actors did a good job of keeping you on your toes. This was a completely 3D walkthrough with bright neon visual effects throughout. No long, dark passages where you're feeling walls to find your way. There were creative visual effects used throughout.
Appropriate For
10+
Summary
If you are desperately wanting to be horrified, the Fear Factory is not the house to go for. This was a very unique experience and I'm glad I went to it this year.

Signage / Visibility / Location
Easy to find Location at the State Fair Park, right off 84th and greenfield. I think it was gate 4. It was in the same building where they make the creampuffs during state fair.
Wait Area / Line Entertainment
The courtyard between the two haunted houses was cool and creepily lit up. Theres a tent with a DJ and games. But thats really for after the haunts since you have to wait in lines to get into them. I like Splatterhaus' numbered ticket system better, but it was a sunday so the wait wasn't long. characters from the houses would occasionally pop out to spook the crowd.
Most Unique
They had two haunts at one spot so you could choose to do one or the other or both. The 3D is still pretty unique and its even better than last year. I like pirates so the outdoor area made me happy.
Actors' Performance
The actors were really cool. They really made both houses feel unique. The 3d factory was full of manic, intence characters that seemed to come from everywhere. The illusions hid them so well sometimes that you couldn't help but get surprised.
meanwhile outdoors the pirates and zombies were really creepy and scary and you honestly thought a couple of them were gonna eat you.
Overall for a sunday, when I know its kinda slow, the actors kept things going and were awesome despite the cold, from what the guy out front told me, there are usually 20 more actors on fridays and saturdays and If I wanted to volunteer I could. I can't, but I definately want to see the show with even more action.
Appropriate For
outdoor 10+, indoor 12+
Summary
Awesome sets and scenes, I'm hard to scare and they got me a couple of times. Scare factor is only a four because I'm a guy who doesn't get very scared, but it was still very cool. Wish I had the time to volunteer, it seems like a lot of fun.

Signage / Visibility / Location
extremely easy to find it is right off the off ramp of i-94 about a half mile
Wait Area / Line Entertainment
well standing in line they half a heated tent that you can visit with music, and a mechanical bull that you can ride for $3 3 times. there bathroom accomdations werent the best for the females. they had a concession stand and the staff doesnt entertain you much until you are up to go through the factory
Most Unique
the 3D graphics
Actors' Performance
i have to give this establishment a lot of credit with their performance and setup. this is a 3D haunted factory walk through. with the paint on the walls and actors everything pops out at you making illusions that arent really there. the walls move, the actors take you by wide surprise, you dont know what to expect right around the corner.
